Introducing Team Black

Joe Kernan is no stranger to South Bend. After serving the city as Mayor for more than ten years, Joe went on to serve the State of Indiana as its 48th Governor.

This year, Joe’s hitting the campaign trail again—this time as a Great Big Kid! And he won’t be running alone. With him on this journey is 11-year-old Daniel, a Junior Youth of the Year Candidate and Joe’s best running mate yet!

Q & A with Daniel

What are your hobbies? "I like helping other students learn to speak English at my school. I'm also in Math Bowl, Spelling Bowl, and track."

What are your favorite Boys & Girls Club activities? “I love Club programs like tutoring, computers, gym and homework help. I also like drawing cartoons in art.”

What has been your greatest challenge? “Learning to speak English during Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grades.”

What has been your greatest accomplishment? “Being selected for Junior Youth of the Year and earning straight A’s in school this quarter.”
