I am a Senior Manager for Crowe Horwath LLP with a focus in the construction industry. A graduate of Indiana University's Kelley School of Business, I returned to the Michiana area after college to pursue a career in accounting. Raised in neighboring Elkhart County, I chose to make my home in South Bend for the first nine years of my career until just recently relocating to Granger with my wife, Gina, and 19-month-old daughter, Gia.
Before taking on this project, I had very little knowledge of what happens at the Boys and Girls Club of St. Joe County other than simply providing a safe environment for kids. What an eye opening experience it has been! When I began this project, my motivation was to win the competition. That motivation quickly changed into a desire to provide support and to raise awareness for the club so it receives the necessary funding to provide all of its services to the children of the community.
My greatest experience along the journey was meeting my Youth of the Year Candidate, Sy'air. I can only hope that I have influenced his life as much as he has influenced mine. Sy'air is only ten years old, but his life experiences are well beyond his age. He has aspirations of attending the University of Michigan and playing football for the Wolverines. After college he plans on playing football professionally for the New England Patriots. When asked what his back-up career would be if football didn’t work out, he calmly replied, "I guess it would be a professional basketball player". This may seem like just the dreams of a ten-year-old, but after talking to him and learning of his life experiences, I will say that anything is possible for this young man. He has been attending the Boys and Girls Club since kindergarten, and although he struggled with his grades early in his academic career, he has been on the high honor roll with the help of the Boys and Girls Club.
Please help me help all of the kids at the Boys and Girls Club, including Sy'Air, and vote for me today!!
